Military Rehearsals at Red Fort Set the Stage
New Delhi: This year, India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 will be marked as a tribute to the success of Operation Sindoor, a decisive anti-terror military campaign conducted in May 2025. The Ministry of Defence has announced that the festivities will honor the bravery and strategic excellence of the armed forces.
As part of the celebrations:
- 🎺 Military Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, paramilitary forces, and Railway Protection Force will perform patriotic music at over 140 iconic locations across the country.
- 🏰 At the historic Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the ceremony, unfurl the national flag, and address the nation. The Indian Air Force will coordinate the ceremonial Guard of Honour, a 21-gun salute, and a special flypast featuring both the Tricolour and the Operation Sindoor flag.
- 🎼 The official invitation cards for the event feature the Operation Sindoor logo and a sketch of the Chenab Bridge, symbolizing India’s engineering prowess and the spirit of “Naya Bharat” (New India).
Why Operation Sindoor Matters
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. Between May 7 and May 10, Indian forces targeted terrorist and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, destroying nine terror camps and striking 13 enemy airbases.
The operation is now seen as a turning point in India’s counter-terror doctrine, with the government declaring such strikes as the “new normal” in its national security strategy.
Symbolism and National Pride
- 🌉 The Chenab Bridge, featured on the invitation, is the world’s highest railway arch bridge and represents India’s engineering excellence.
- 🎖️ Several military officers and BSF personnel involved in Operation Sindoor will be honored with gallantry awards, including the prestigious Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal.
- 👥 At Gyanpath, 2,500 NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers will form a human display of the “Naya Bharat” logo while singing the National Anthem.
