Kathmandu: Amid the political crisis in Nepal, the suspense over who would be the interim Prime Minister has ended. Recently, the country’s parliament has been dissolved. Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been selected as Nepal’s interim leader by the Jan Andolan activists. Her name has been sent for the President’s approval. Who is Karki..?
Sushila Karki (72) holds a prominent place in Nepal’s history. She began her career as a teacher and later entered the judiciary. By performing her duties fearlessly and competently, she earned a reputation as an incorruptible individual. In 2009, she joined the Supreme Court and was appointed as a permanent judge. In 2016, she took on the responsibilities as interim Chief Justice. Subsequently, on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council, she assumed full responsibilities as Chief Justice and created history as Nepal’s first female Chief Justice. She also played a key role in the recent movement.
