Amazon Prime Household Sharing Ends October 1: What It Means for You

Starting October 1, 2025, Amazon is officially retiring its Prime Invitee Program. If you’ve been sharing Prime benefits with someone outside your household, it’s time to rethink your setup.

🛑 What’s Changing?

Amazon will now require all shared Prime accounts to be part of the same household under its new Amazon Family program. This means:

  • No more sharing free shipping or Prime Video with friends or relatives living elsewhere.
  • Only one additional adult, four teens, and four children can be added to a Prime account.
  • All members must reside at the same address.

📌 Key Dates & Details

Event Date/Info
Invitee Program Ends October 1, 2025
Guest Notification Deadline September 5, 2025
New Program Name Amazon Family
Household Requirement Mandatory for all shared accounts
Rejoin Limit 12-month wait to join another household

🔍 How to Update Your Prime Sharing Settings

To manage your Amazon Family setup:

  1. Go to Prime Membership Settings
  2. Click on Share Prime Benefits
  3. Add an adult via invitation or joint sign-in
  4. Add children or teens using the Add Child option

💡 Tip: If your shared member lives elsewhere, they’ll need to purchase their own Prime membership to continue enjoying benefits.

📈 Why This Matters

Amazon cited “strong growth and record-breaking sign-ups” during Prime Day as part of its shift to a household-only model. This move aligns with similar crackdowns by platforms like Netflix and YouTube Premium.
