Heavy Rains Disrupt Mumbai and Pune: Red Alert in Pune, Orange Alert in Mumbai

Mumbai and Pune are facing severe weather conditions as heavy rains pound the cities, causing chaos and disruption to daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune and an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating the intensity and potential risks associated with the ongoing weather patterns.

In Mumbai, residents are bracing for a deluge as the IMD warns of heavy rainfall expected tonight and throughout tomorrow. With a significant chance of flooding in low-lying areas, residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, Pune is experiencing extremely heavy rainfall, prompting the red alert from IMD, signaling a critical situation that requires immediate attention. Thunderstorms and gusty winds further add to the environmental hazards faced by the city, with a high risk of travel disruptions and potential flooding.

The impact of the heavy rains is already being felt across both cities. In Mumbai, a monorail breakdown has left over 500 passengers stranded due to a power failure aggravated by the downpour. Rescue teams have been mobilized to assist those affected. Train services on the Harbour Line and CSMT–Thane routes have been suspended, with shuttle services operating on limited routes.

At the Mumbai Airport, passengers are urged to check their flight statuses and account for possible delays or cancellations due to the adverse weather conditions. Additionally, reports of waterlogging and flooding in areas like Lower Parel, Chunnabhatti, and King’s Circle have resulted in challenging road conditions and safety concerns for residents.

In Pune, the red alert has led to the closure of schools in Lonavala and the rescheduling of exams at Mumbai University to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of the extreme weather forecast.

As the situation unfolds, authorities are on high alert, and residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of inclement weather.

Stay safe and stay informed during this challenging weather period.
