Massive Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort Hours After 2,900 kg Explosives Seized in Faridabad
A high-intensity blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening has left the nation shaken. The explosion occurred just hours after authorities recovered nearly 2,900 kg of explosives from two homes in Faridabad, Haryana, exposing a chilling terror plot that spanned multiple states.
What Happened at Red Fort?
At 6:52 pm, a slow-moving car halted at a traffic signal near Gate 1 of Lal Qila Metro Station. Moments later, a powerful explosion ripped through the vehicle, igniting nearby cars and sending shockwaves through one of Delhi’s busiest tourist zones. eight people died, and 24 others were injured, many critically
Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror—mangled vehicles, body parts on the road, and flames engulfing parked cars. Emergency services rushed to the scene, deploying fire tenders and ambulances. The injured were taken to LNJP Hospital, while forensic teams began collecting evidence
Faridabad Explosives Haul: A Chilling Connection
Earlier that day, Jammu & Kashmir Police, acting on intelligence, raided two homes in Faridabad linked to Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, a medical professional from J&K. What they found was staggering—12 suitcases packed with explosive materials, including 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, detonators, and timers
The intel came from Dr. Adil Rather, arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after being caught on CCTV pasting posters supporting Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar. Rather previously worked at GMC Anantnag, where another assault rifle and ammunition were found in a staff locker
A female colleague of Shakeel was also arrested after police discovered an assault rifle and ammunition in her Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Authorities believe the group was part of a transnational terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an al-Qaeda affiliate
Investigation & Security Measures
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the probe. Security has been ramped up across Delhi, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh, with special focus on metro stations, railway hubs, and the Indo-Nepal border
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been briefed. All district units, including the Special Cell and Crime Branch, are on high alert.

What This Means for India’s Security
This incident highlights the growing threat of urban terrorism and the need for inter-agency coordination. The use of medical professionals and residential areas to store explosives shows a disturbing evolution in terror tactics.
Authorities are now investigating whether the Red Fort blast was directly linked to the Faridabad seizure, or if it was a separate but coordinated attack.
