India Seal T20 Series Win in Brisbane as Rain Abandons Final Match at Gabba
India emerged victorious in the five-match T20 series against Australia, clinching it 2-1 after the final game at Brisbane’s iconic Gabba was abandoned due to severe weather. The match lasted just 4.5 overs before lightning threats and persistent rain forced officials to call off play, marking the second weather-affected game of the series after the Canberra washout.

Australia Toss Win – Choose to Bowl
Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first on a green-tinged surface. Despite early signs of seam movement, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma counterattacked with flair. Gill looked in sublime touch, smashing 29 off just 16 balls, including four boundaries in a single over off Ben Dwarshuis. Abhishek, though not at his fluent best, capitalized on dropped chances by Glenn Maxwell and Dwarshuis to score a brisk 23.
Abhishek Sharma Record
During his innings, Abhishek Sharma etched his name in the record books by becoming the fastest batter among Full Member nations to reach 1000 T20I runs, achieving the milestone in just 528 balls, surpassing previous records held by elite T20 players.
India were cruising at 52/0 when play was halted 21 minutes into the match due to lightning alerts. Although rain hadn’t started yet, the forecast prompted ground staff to cover the pitch and evacuate lower stands. After a two-hour delay, the match was officially abandoned.
This result handed India their fifth consecutive bilateral T20I series win under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir, extending their dominance over Australia, who have now lost four bilateral T20I series since 2022 — three of them to India Mint The Economic Times CNBCTV18.
