India Faces Torrential Rain: Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata & Andhra Pradesh on High Alert

Heavy rain is sweeping across major Indian cities and states. Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and parts of Andhra Pradesh are under severe weather warnings. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts for several districts. Flooding, traffic disruptions, and power outages are being reported.

Hyderabad Rain Alert: Twin Reservoirs Opened, Evacuations Begin

Hyderabad is facing intense rainfall. The Musi River has flooded low-lying areas like Kulsumpura, Chaderghat, and Moosarambagh. Roads are closed. GHMC teams have evacuated dozens of families near Chaderghat Bridge.

The IMD predicts heavy rain till September 30. Winds may reach 50 kmph. Schools are on Dasara break, but safety measures are in place for students. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has placed the state on high alert.

Kolkata Floods: Electrocution Deaths Spark Legal Action

Kolkata saw deadly flooding earlier this week. The Calcutta High Court has asked for reports from the state government, KMC, and CESC after multiple electrocution deaths.

Durga Puja preparations are under threat. The IMD warns of more rain due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

Andhra Pradesh: Coastal Districts Brace for Impact

A depression over the Bay of Bengal is moving toward South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh. It may cross near Gopalpur on September 27.

Districts like Eluru, Krishna, Guntur, and Nellore are expected to receive heavy rainfall. Winds may reach 50 kmph. Control rooms are active. NDRF and SDRF teams are deployed.

Mumbai & Maharashtra: Monsoon Withdrawal Delayed

Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra are seeing cloudy skies and intermittent rain. The monsoon is not expected to withdraw before October 5.

Red alerts are in place for districts along the Bhima River. Flooding has affected Kalaburagi and nearby villages. Relief operations are underway.

What’s Causing the Rain?

A well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is the main culprit. It’s intensifying into a depression. This system is pulling moisture from the sea and pushing it inland. That’s why multiple states are getting hit at once.

  • Avoid walking or driving through flooded streets.
